Petrol and Diesel Prices in Pakistan May Drop by Rs10 Soon
Good news for drivers across Pakistan — petrol and diesel prices are expected to go down by up to Rs10 per litre very soon. This price cut could bring some much-needed relief at the fuel stations, especially with the rising cost of living affecting everyone.
The price drop is likely to happen because international oil prices have come down over the last couple of weeks. Petrol prices in the global market have fallen by about $6 per barrel, while diesel is cheaper by $5 per barrel. This has created space for local fuel prices to be reduced.
If things go as expected and the government keeps the current taxes unchanged, then the new prices will be announced on April 15 and will last until April 30.
At the moment, petrol is selling for Rs254.63 per litre and diesel is at Rs258.64. If the estimated drop happens, petrol could be priced around Rs244.63 and diesel around Rs249.64.
However, it’s not all confirmed yet. Some government officials are thinking about keeping prices a bit higher to avoid a sudden increase in fuel demand. Also, there’s talk of adding a Rs5 carbon levy in July as part of a deal with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

Even though there’s no general sales tax (GST) on petrol and diesel right now, the government still earns around Rs86 per litre through various charges. This includes Rs70 from petroleum development levy, Rs16 from customs duty, and about Rs17 goes to oil companies and dealers for distribution and sales.
So, while the price drop is likely, the final decision will depend on government policies and global trends. Still, if you’ve been waiting to fill up your tank, mid-April might just be the right time.
